Moonganggong Eunbong An Bang-jun (1573–1654) was a Confucian scholar representing Honam. At age 20, when the Imjin War broke out, he raised a militia with Park Gwang-jeon, and during the Jeongmyo and Byeongja wars issued calls to rally loyalty to the king. Daegye Seowon was established in the 8th year of King Hyojong's reign (1657) by local Confucian scholars to commemorate An Bang-jun's learning and virtue and enshrined his memorial tablet. This seowon experienced repeated abolition and restoration due to central political changes. In the 17th year of King Sukjong's reign (1691), abolition of An Bang-jun's shrine was decided, and it was abolished the following year along with Dosansa in Neungju. It was restored in 1695 (King Sukjong's 21st year). In the 30th year of King Sukjong (1704), it was granted royal endorsement and elevated to a royal seowon with the name 'Daegye [大溪]'. It was destroyed by fire in the 4th year of King Jeongjo (1780) and rebuilt in 1784. Subsequently, it was abolished in the 5th year of King Gojong (1868) by Heungseon Daewongun's order to close seowons and was never restored.

Hyanggyo were state-run local educational institutions established during the Goryeo and Joseon periods to hold memorial rites for distinguished Confucian scholars and to educate local residents. Boseong Hyanggyo is said to have been built in 1397 (the 6th year of King Taejo's reign) under the leadership of Kim Yuyang, then the county magistrate. It was first established in Gugye-dong at the foot of Gwanjusang, later moved west of Yangcheongsan, and after being burned down during the Jeongyujaeran (Japanese invasion) in 1597, it was relocated and rebuilt at its current site in 1602 (35th year of King Seonjo's reign). During the Japanese colonial period, it was a site of anti-Japanese Confucian scholars' resistance. When alcohol production was banned under the prohibition during memorial rites at the hyanggyo, the school resisted and ultimately secured permission to produce alcohol for the rites, which led to nationwide acceptance of alcohol at similar events. The surviving buildings include Daeseongjeon, enshrining Confucius and Korean sages' spirit tablets; Dongmu and Seomu; Myeongnyundang, a learning space; and Dongjae and Seojae, where students studied and lived. The building arrangement follows the typical hyanggyo layout of jeonhak-humyo [learning space in front, ritual space behind]. This hyanggyo was established after the late Joseon period and provides valuable resources for the study of the education system and rural communities.
