Joseong 5-day Market was established in the late Joseon Dynasty at the site of the current Joseong Health Center in front of Joseong Station, originally called Joseongwon Market. Because residents from Daeseo and Donggang-myeon in Goheung-gun also used it, it formed a relatively large scale of trade and the market atmosphere was lively. Especially in the 1930s, with the opening of the railroad making transportation convenient, the grain market flourished to the extent that rice was traded from early morning until late afternoon. In the 1980s, it was expanded and relocated to the current market area around Joseong-myeon 880-1 as part of the small town development project. In 1993, as part of rural residential life zone development, it was modernized with paved market floors and the construction of flush toilets.
