Daewonsa Temple was founded by Monk Ado during the reign of King Jijeung of Silla, and later reconstructed by Wonoguksa, the 5th patriarch of the Jogye Order, in the Goryeo Dynasty. Located mid-slope on Cheonbongsan Mountain, it had over 10 buildings before the Korean War, but most were burned down during the Yeosu-Suncheon Rebellion. Currently, Geukrakjeon Hall is designated as Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Property No. 87, and in front of it stands the stupa of Jajin Guksa. Nearby attractions include Baekmin Art Museum, Songjae Seo Jae-pil's birthplace and memorial park, Juam lakeside, and the Dolmen Park, forming an educational and cultural exploration route that attracts visitors year-round.
At Cheonbongsan Daewonsa, there is the Boseong Green Tea origin site settlement. It is designated as the 11th National Important Agricultural Heritage by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Cheonbongsan Daewonsa is a Baekje ancient temple with a history of 1,500 years of Honam Buddhism, founded after Monk Adohwa opened the monastery gates in the 3rd year of King Muryeong of Baekje. During the mid-Goryeo period, Jajin Wono Guksa, the 5th of the 16 Guksa of Songgwangsa, reconstructed Garim and expanded the tea garden. Jajin Guksa carved Seonmun Yeomsong at Daewonsa as a meditation teaching text and initiated the tea culture of Dasun-ilmi.
