Gohyanggul Susan is a oyster specialty restaurant located in the Cheonbuk Oyster Complex near the Hongseong Boryeong Seawall in Boryeong-si. It is the oldest establishment in the Cheonbuk Oyster Complex and is said to turn its first-time visitors into long-time regulars. Living up to its reputation, it welcomes guests with fresh oysters, friendly service, and the taste of home. Gohyanggul Susan cooks rice with rice and vegetables grown directly, makes kimchi, presses oil, and prepares food. Oysters are low in fat and rich in minerals, making them nutritious and flavorful. The oyster spawning season ends by August, and the oysters start to gain flesh in autumn, reaching optimal condition in winter. Every December, visitors can enjoy the oysters in connection with the 'Cheonbuk Oyster Festival' held at the Cheonbuk Oyster Complex. Gohyanggul Susan is accessible via National Route 40 through Hongbo-ro, with Gwangcheon IC of the Seohaean Expressway nearby. Surroundings include Cheonbuk Oyster Complex, Hongseong Boryeong Seawall, Cheonsuman, Hongseongho, and Namdang Port.
Geumgang Estuary Bank Tourist Site is a famous place to see migratory birds that visit the Geumgang Estuary Bank every year. The Geumgang Estuary Bank is a large-scale hydraulic facility built where the majestic Geumgang River meets the sea and widens its arms, also serving as a bridge connecting Chungnam Seocheon and Jeonbuk Gunsan. The vast reed fields and farmland at the Geumgang estuary host rare birds such as Baikal teal, mallard ducks, and black-headed gulls, along with tens of thousands of migratory birds, creating a magnificent sight. The scenery with morning mist is beautiful, and the view at sunset with the dusk is also superb. Even in seasons without migratory birds, travelers continue to visit to enjoy the abundant and leisurely scenery of the Geumgang estuary. The Geumgang Estuary Bank Tourist Site, consisting of Dreamland with play facilities like a four-season sledding hill, Viking ride, and carousel, Game World, and a drive-in theater, is well equipped with restaurants and parking lots, making it great for spending enjoyable time around the estuary. Especially, walking along the back trail to the observatory offers a panoramic view of the Geumgang estuary and opposite Gunsan. In front of the site along the riverside walking path, quaint cafes and Kim Injeon Park attract couples looking for a date spot. Many travelers also enjoy hiking along the adjacent bicycle path. Visitors can slowly walk the long riverside promenade along the Geumgang estuary, admire the sparkling riverside scenery under the sunlight, and walk a little further to visit the bird ecology exhibition hall.
The National Institute of Ecology Ecoriaum exhibits about 1,600 representative flora and fauna from the world's five major climates: tropical, desert, Mediterranean, temperate, and polar, allowing a vivid experience of a living ecosystem. There are also two permanent theme exhibition halls for learning the basic concepts of ecosystems, a special exhibition hall for ecosystem-themed exhibitions, an Eco Lab with ecology education tailored by viewing height, a children's ecology reading room, and a 4D theater. The outdoor exhibition areas include the Geumguri Zone to observe wetland ecosystem features, Hadaram Zone reproducing Korea's forest vegetation by climate zone, Godaeryuk Zone recreating habitats of Korea's representative deer species, Najeojeo Zone for enjoying various wild egrets and ducks, the Eco Care Center for isolation to prevent highly pathogenic avian influenza and protection of internationally endangered species, and a CITES animal protection facility for safeguarding internationally endangered animals from smuggling and illegal trade.
Janghang Songnim Natural Recreation Forest features dense pine trees along 1.5 km of coastline, offering a serene place for a stroll throughout the year. Various flowers inhabit the walking path, notably the violet Liriope flowers that bloom in August and September, adding charm. The forest was originally planted as a windbreak against sea breezes in 1954 by students of Janghang Agricultural High School (currently Janghang Technical High School), who planted 2-year-old Korean red pines (Gomsong). Today, approximately 12,000 Gomsong (haesong) trees grow naturally. It was designated a National Forest Cultural Asset by the Korea Forest Service in 2019 and became a natural recreation forest in 2021.
