Bonghwa Hyanggyo, located in Bongsung-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, was first built during the reign of King Sejong of Joseon and rebuilt in 1579. It underwent several repairs and was used as a school until it was closed in 1950. At that time, it was severely damaged and was restored in 1975 by County Magistrate Kwon Myeong-heum. Passing through the main gate, Sajumun, there is a pavilion serving as a resting space. Behind it is Myeongnyundang, where students studied, with East and West dormitories facing each other on both sides. Behind Myeongnyundang to the left is Naesammun, and inside is Daeseongjeon shrine. Daeseongjeon has three bays at the front and three bays on the side and enshrines Confucius’s disciples and various sages from the Joseon era. Overall, the building layout follows jeonhak-humyo, with study areas in front and ritual spaces at the back.
