1894년 12월, 일본군과 관군의 연합 공격으로 2,600여 명의 동학농민군이 최후를 맞은 보은 북실전투의 격전지에 그 숭고한 정신을 기리는 공원이 조성되어 있다. 동학농민혁명기념공원은 동학농민혁명 최후의 격전지 중 하나인 보은군 성족리 일원에 자리한 자연친화형 생태 역사 공간이다. 공원 입구에는 1894년 동학농민혁명의 배경을 새겨 넣은 조형본이 세워져 있으며, 동학농민혁명군위령탑을 중심으로 혁명의 역사를 사진과 글로 만나는 통곡의 계단, 사건별 역사가 새겨진 하늘길 계단, 상징탑·돌성·민중의 광장 등이 갖추어져 있다. 위령탑에 전시된 기록들은 동학농민혁명과 보은의 역사적 사실을 조명하며, 산책로를 따라 역사와 사색을 함께 즐길 수 있다. 인근 속리산 국립공원과 연계해 방문하기 좋다.
