[A large mountain with overlapping waves of mountains] Sokrisan was designated as a national park in 1970 and is one of the eight scenic views of Korea. Its main peak, Cheonhwangbong (1,057.7m), along with Birobong, Gilsangbong, Munsubong, and other eight peaks, as well as impressive formations like Ipseokdae, Munjangdae, and Sinsundae, stand tall. The eight stone gates, curved like bows, are notable features. These granite peaks and the dense forest covering the entire mountain harmonize well with the thousand-year-old Beopjusa Temple, creating a scenic landscape. Compared to the steep Hwabuk side, the broader Naesokri side houses famous historic sites such as Beopjusa, Bokcheonam, Jungsajaam, and Sanghwanam. Between the overlapping peaks are valleys like Eunpokdong, Yongyudong, and waterfalls such as Ssangryong and Osong. The area is a treasure trove of natural resources, home to 1,016 species of flora and fauna. Cheonhwangbong is the source of the three major rivers of the Joseon era (Sampasu, Dalcheon, Utongsu), with rainwater flowing east to the Nakdong River, south to the Geum River, and west to the Namhan River.
