The Asan Yi Chungmu-gong Historic Site refers to the sanctuary area around Asan Hyeonchungsa Shrine. Hyeonchungsa Shrine was first built in 1706 (32nd year of King Sukjong) as a shrine for General Yi Sun-sin, a hero who saved the country during the Imjin War. In 1932, the Yi Chungmu-gong Relic Preservation Society was formed and rebuilt the shrine. From 1966 to 1974, the government sanctified the site and designated it as a historic site. This place preserves General Yi Sun-sin's portrait and the ten-scene painting recording his life, as well as related relics such as the Nanjung Ilgi (a national treasure) and his sword (a treasure). It also houses the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Memorial Hall, a historical theme hall for collecting, exhibiting, and educating about naval battle materials from the Imjin War. Additionally, there is General Yi Sun-sin's former residence, an archery range, and a Jeongnyeo memorial arch.
