Yeonggwang Gulbi is a specialty product produced in Beopseongpo that has been served on the royal table since ancient times. According to one theory, during the reign of King Yejong of Goryeo, after I Jagaem was exiled to Yeonggwang and offered croaker fish to the king, it was named 'gulbi' to mean 'though in exile, I will never yield.' Another story is that the straw-woven croaker shaped like a bent fish came to be called 'gulbi' after originally being called 'gubi' due to its curvature when dried. Walking along Gulbi Street, one can see drying racks and shops selling gulbi in every house, as well as restaurants serving gulbi set meals in the middle of the street. The Beopseongpo Gulbi Food Street was created in the Beopseongpo area as a themed food and cultural street to attract food tourists and revitalize the local economy. Visitors can enjoy various gulbi flavors including barley gulbi, red pepper paste gulbi, and spicy croaker stew. At Handureumgyo Bridge on Beopseongpo Gulbi Street, fish-shaped roofs and various gulbi sculptures symbolically indicate the character of the place.
