Yeongdong Onggi Workshop was opened by Mr. Yeo Bong-gu, who was active in Seoul, to continue the tradition of our traditional onggi pottery at the site where a kiln from 300 years ago once stood. It provides a place to learn the basic theory of onggi and the overall manufacturing process of ceramics and onggi. At this workshop, instead of making luxury ceramics, you can make simple teacups and mini jars yourself, and carefully apply natural glaze to create a unique piece of onggi pottery in the world. The natural glaze materials used here are easily obtainable in Yeongdong, which is why the onggi master owner moved here. The owner’s warm words show their heartfelt love for onggi. Displeased with the prevalence of China-made clay pots, he opened the workshop as an experience venue to promote healthy ceramics made from Korean clay and the joy of touching clay. Making ceramics is the art of patience and waiting, enduring high temperatures of 1,250 degrees while enjoying the tactile pleasure of clay. Besides pottery making, the Onggi Workshop offers various experiences for children, including yellow soil dyeing, enzyme experiences, and water play. Additionally, there are many opportunities to play and learn in the countryside, such as in chicken coops and vineyards.
