Since 1961, with the establishment of industrial complexes in Ulsan, large volumes of petrochemical products, the lifeblood of industry, have been produced, and ships transporting these goods frequently traveled through Ulsan Port. Consequently, there was an urgent need to install navigational aids to prevent marine pollution accidents and ensure the safe navigation of vessels. The Hwaamchu Lighthouse, shaped like a turtle praying for safe navigation for a thousand years, was erected at the tip of Kkotbang Village, the gateway to Ulsan Port. Built in December 1994 within the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Industrial Complex, it is the largest of its kind in East Asia and has safely guided ships after their long journeys into Ulsan Port. Visitors can take an elevator to the observatory deck to experience the vibrant Ulsan Port and the dynamic industrial complex illuminated 24 hours a day. Additionally, the Hwaamchu Lighthouse deck path is a popular nighttime view spot frequently visited by families.
