The birthplace of Baeksan An Hee-je, a pioneer of the independence movement, is located in Burim-myeon, Uiryeong-gun. The building consists of two structures: the main house and the sarangchae. The main house features a paljak-style tiled roof and is structured with six kan in front and two kan on the side, arranged eastward from the left as maru (wooden floor), room, two daecheong (main living rooms), room, and kitchen. A one-kan maru facing south serves as the sarangchae. The front and back widows are well developed, forming a combined house style that meets the demands for various room functions within one building rather than separate wings, characteristic of late Joseon period houses. Baeksan An Hee-je was born in 1885 in Ipsan-ri, Burim-myeon. In 1907, he founded Changnam School, and in 1908, Uisin School; he also contributed to spreading new education by establishing Dongnae Gumyung School and Daegu Gyounam School in 1909. At 27, he organized the Daedong Youth Group in Manchuria and published the Doknip Sunbo in exile in the Soviet Union. At age 30, he established Baeksan Sanghoe in Busan to raise funds for the independence movement. He organized the Gimi Yukyeonghoe and acquired the Era Daily in 1926 to promote the press. He was imprisoned in 1942 for the Joseon Language Society Incident and again in 1943 for the Manchurian Daejonggyo Incident, dying on September 2, 1943, just four hours after his release.
