Gugye Seowon is located at the foot of Manjuksan in Guam-ri, Sacheon-eup. It was established to commemorate the scholar Guam Lee Jeong during the reign of King Myeongjong of Joseon (1545–1567). Lee Jeong passed the special civil service examination as a top candidate in 1536 (Jungjong 31), and he was a high-ranking government official and scholar. He was well-versed in Neo-Confucianism and dedicated to education for cultivating future generations. The seowon was founded in 1606 (Seonjo 39) and the shrine Gusan-sa was built in 1611 (Gwanghaegun 3). It was promoted to a state-approved seowon with the name plaque "Gugye" granted by the country in 1676 (Sukjong 2). In 1723 (Gyeongjong 3), the memorial tablet of Seongong Kim Deokham was additionally enshrined. It was closed following the seowon abolition order of Heungseon Daewongun in 1868 (Gojong 5) but reestablished in 1931. The seowon complex includes Daegwandae, a shrine, eastern and western dormitories, an inner triple gate, and an outer triple gate. Annual rites are held in March and September.
Sacheon Eupseong Fortress, located in the Seonin-ri area of Sacheon-eup, Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is a stone and earth fortress with about 300m of its original approximately 1.5km circumference currently remaining in three sections. The old names of Sacheon were Samul (史勿), Sasu (泗水), and Dongseong (東城), but it has been called Sacheon since the reign of King Taejong of Joseon. It is said that in the 24th year of King Sejong's reign (1442), Shin Inson, the Deputy Minister of War, began building the fortress by royal decree, starting with stone walls and completing them three years later (1445). Four years after that, an official office was built and the eup was relocated. Early records state the fortress circumference was 3,105 cheok, the height of the walls 10.5-11.5 cheok, with three gates and bastions each. Later records show the circumference as 5,015 cheok, height 15 cheok, still with three gates and bastions, indicating subsequent expansions. The fortress was originally built to protect residents and defend against Japanese pirates but suffered many hardships during the Japanese invasions. Especially in the 32nd year of King Seonjo’s reign (1598), General Jeong Gi-ryong led Joseon troops alongside Ming reinforcements in a fierce battle to recapture the fortress from Japanese forces. Currently, inside the fortress is Sanseong Park, featuring the Memorial Tower, Suyangru Pavilion, and Gwandeokjeong Archery Pavilion, serving as a pleasant resting place for citizens.
Sacheon Seonjinsel Fortress in Sacheon is located in a place surrounded by the sea on three sides, offering excellent views and is famous as a cherry blossom tourist spot in spring. Seonjinsel Fortress was built by Japanese forces during the Imjin War, and when the 700 old cherry trees planted inside the fortress bloom, it becomes a spectacular cherry blossom attraction. Although the Yakseokru has collapsed, traces remain of the earthen fortifications, the gate, and what is presumed to be the command post site. Climbing the stone steps at the fortress entrance and walking along the fortress walls reveals an outdoor performance hall, and beyond the gate, one can see the site of the main tower, a monument honoring the war dead, and a victory monument commemorating Admiral Yi Sun-sin's naval victory at Sacheon.
