Hoejin was an international trading port where numerous figures and various goods gathered through maritime exchanges during the Unified Silla period. During Unified Silla, there were two sea routes for the China route: the West Sea northern route departing from Dang-eunpo in the mid-west coastal area and the West Sea southern route departing from Hoejin in Naju. These two sea routes made maritime exchanges very active. The port of Hoejinhyeon in late Silla to early Goryeo was Pungho Naruteo in front of Pungho Village in Hoejin. From the Unified Silla to the Goryeo period, it actively served as an international trading port but gradually declined after Hoejinhyeon was abolished in early Joseon. It barely maintained its presence until the 1970s but became difficult to trace after major changes to the Yeongsan River due to the estuary project and the Four Rivers project. Currently, it is used as a facility for experience visitors taking the yellow sailboat from Yeongsanpo to Pungho Naruteo, now called Hoejin Naru. Opposite the Pungho Naruteo (Hoejin Naru) parking lot is the Natural Dyeing Culture Center, and 500 meters in a straight line is the Baekho Limje Literature Museum.
