Hoguksa Temple | 景点信息 | K-Travel Mate

Hoguksa Temple, located within Jinju Fortress, was founded during the Goryeo Dynasty and was originally called Naeseongsa. It is believed to have been established to defend against Wako pirates by repairing Jinju Fortress and training monk soldiers. During the Imjin War, it served as a base for the warrior monks. It is said that the temple was rebuilt under King Sukjong in honor of the monk soldiers who shared the fate of the fortress during the Second Battle of Jinju Fortress. Recently, the site of the Iljumun gate was discovered and rebuilt during the restoration of Jinju Fortress, and all of the temple buildings were newly constructed in recent years. Near Hoguksa are many tourist attractions, including the Jinju Music Fountain, Jinju Fortress's Uiam, and Uigisa.
