Mr. Choi Yong-jin, who has preserved the traditional blacksmith workshop for over 30 years, began his path with iron at age 23 while learning skills at his brother-in-law's blacksmith workshop near Hongin-dong, Chungju. His dedication was officially recognized by the government, and in November 1995, he was selected by the Korea Industrial Manpower Corporation as the first hereditary craftsman in the blacksmith sector in Korea. The Chiljido is an iron sword granted by the Baekje king to the Japanese king, kept at the Isonokami Shrine in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It measures 74.9 cm in length and features seven blades formed by three branch-shaped blades on each side of the straight sword body, hence the name Chiljido. Mr. Choi recreated the Chiljido through consultations and verifications with a Japanese broadcasting station, KBS, and experts, attracting public interest.
