Seolbong Seowon is a seowon (private Confucian academy) established in 1564 (Myeongjong 19) by Jeonghyeon, the governor of Icheon, and is a representative Joseon Dynasty private school and rural self-governing organization of Icheon-si. It originated as the first seowon in the Giho region, 21 years later than the first royal-authorized seowon Baekundong Seowon (Sosu Seowon), and was relocated to an official building in 1593 (Seonjo 26). It was abolished in 1871 due to Daewongun's seowon abolition policy and disappeared from history. Later, Icheon-si became the first basic local government in Korea to provide budget support, and together with four major clans of Icheon, it was restored to its current appearance in 2007. The buildings on site include the shrine Sanghyeonsa, Myeonggyodang, Dongjae, Seojae, Naesammun, Yanghyeonmun, Yangsajae (administration office), Jeonsacheong, and Hyeopmun. It enshrines scholars Bokcheon Seo Hee, Yuljeong Lee Gwan-ui, Mojae Kim An-guk, Soyojae Choi Suk-jung, and Haehwadang Seo Seon. Unlike other seowons that are closed and not operated, Seolbong Seowon remains open from Monday to Saturday, offering various free educational programs targeted at the general public, students, multicultural families, foreigners, institutions, and social groups, serving as a place for character development and traditional etiquette education. Located on the slopes of Seolbongsan within Seolbong Park, it is recommended to visit along with Icheon Municipal Museum, Icheon Municipal Woljeon Museum of Art, Seolbong International Sculpture Park, Literature Hill, and Seolbong Reservoir nearby.
This is a representative Korean set menu restaurant in Icheon where a master Korean cuisine chef personally cooks. Only high-quality Icheon rice, known for its excellent taste, is used. The main side dishes include soy sauce marinated crab, barley dried yellow corvina, grilled short rib patties, and bulgogi, along with various carefully prepared side dishes, making the flavors exquisite. Additionally, the restaurant uses only domestically produced chili powder that is dried in-house to provide guests with a healthy dining experience.
