Gungpyeong Port, famous for its beautiful sunset, was designated as a national fishing port in 2008. It is a small harbor with a well-established seafood market full of fresh and delicious seafood. Visitors can enjoy the pleasure of fishing at the charming Fishing Pier, which attracts small boats and anglers. Additionally, the Hwaseong Silk Road Trail along the Hwaseong beach is made of wooden decks, providing a resting spot loved by walkers and hikers who admire the beautiful scenery. Along the Gungpyeong Port parking lot, a row of food trucks offers various snacks such as famous fried shrimp, fried squid, fish cakes, and hot dogs. The Gungpyeong Port plaza also opens a water playground in the summer, making it a great place for families to enjoy water activities.
This large house is located lengthwise north to south on a well-placed site surrounded by low hills. The inscription on the gate states that it was built in the 24th year of King Gojong's reign (1887), but the main quarters and guest quarters are estimated to have been built about 50 years earlier than this gate. The main gate does not face forward but is oriented to the north side, making the house appear smaller than it is at first glance, but it actually has more than 50 rooms. Entering the gate leads directly to the sarangmadang (main yard), with a long row of servant quarters stretching along the left side and the sarangchae (men's quarters) on the right. At the end of the yard opposite the sarangchae is the middle gate leading to the anchae (main living quarters). Inside the middle gate, the ㄷ-shaped anchae features an open front with a central main hall; the left side houses the kitchen, master bedroom, and tea room (gwabang), while the right side includes another kitchen, a gunneonbang (side room), and a wooden floor. A unique feature is the small room behind the inner sarangbang (men's room) in the sarangchae, which connects secretly through the back porch to the main hall of the anchae, a method commonly used in noble houses. The long row of servant quarters blocks the front of both the anchae and sarangchae, forming the inner and main yards and is connected to the gatehouse. The rear yard, a cozy living space for the women of the house, has a well and jangdokdae (jar stand) serving as outdoor household areas. Persimmon and pine trees planted around the site link to the back mountain, creating a beautiful natural setting. The overall floor plan forms a [月] shape, typical of a yangban (aristocratic) residence. (Source: National Heritage Administration)
