📍 Gyeonggi-do Gunpo-si Sokdal-ro 347-4 (Sokdal-dong)
Surisan is the main mountain surrounding Gunpo-si like a folding screen and was designated as the third provincial park of Gyeonggi-do in 2009. There are several theories on the origin of the name Surisan: it is said to be named because the shape of its prominent peaks resembles an eagle; or it comes from Surisa Temple, located in Sokdal-dong, established during the reign of King Jinheung of Silla, regarded as a sacred place for spiritual practice; and during the Joseon Dynasty, it was called 'Su李san' because a royal family member practiced asceticism there. The Surisan terrain is part of the Gwangju mountain range, including important mountains like Cheonggyesan (618m), Gwanggyosan (582m), Gwanaksan (629m), and Baegwunsan (564m). It is the largest mountain located northwest of Gunpo-si, centered around Taeulbong (489.2m), with Seulgibong (469.3m) to the southwest, Gwanmobong (426.2m) to the north, and Suambong (395m) to the northwest. The mountain ridge of Surisan (Taeulbong 489.2m, Seulgibong 469.3m) runs north-south on the west side of Gunpo-si, forming a boundary with Ansan-si and Anyang-si, with the ridge extending east-west dividing Gunpo-si. Surisan rises abruptly from the flat land, mostly composed of quartzite peaks and cliffs. The valleys feature weathered biotite hornblende gneiss or augen gneiss, with partial deposits of white mica and biotite schist.
