The Yuljiri Misonnamu natural habitat is located on a hill mid-slope of a mountain and was discovered in 1967. Misonnamu was first found in 1919 in Yongjeong-ri, Chopyeong-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and introduced to the academic world in 1924 by Japanese botanist Ishidotani Tsutomu at the Arnold Arboretum, receiving the scientific name Abeliophyllum distichum and being designated Natural Monument No. 14. After becoming extinct in its original habitat of Jincheon, three natural habitats were found and protected as natural monuments until 1970: Songdeok-ri in Jangyeon-myeon in 1955, Chujeom-ri in Jangyeon-myeon in 1965, and Yuljiri in Chilseong-myeon in 1967. By 1990, two more habitats were recognized: one in Maecheon-ri, Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun (designated a natural monument) and one reported in Buan-gun in 1992, totaling five known natural habitats. The flowers bloom in white or reddish colors and possess a modest, pure charm reminiscent of soft moonlight, differing from beautiful and flamboyant roses or dahlias, with a subtle and gentle allure akin to Koreans.
