Yeongcheonsa Temple is a Taego Order temple located at the southern foot of Bonghwangsan in Gimje, in the Otaksu Valley. This place has long been called Otaksugol due to the very sacred mineral water spring. According to tradition, about 200 years ago, a flock of crows came to the foot of Bonghwangsan and pecked a rock with their beaks, and miraculously, mineral water sprang forth from there. When this story spread, villagers began to gather, and especially on the Dano Festival in May and the Chuseok holiday in August, it became so crowded there was hardly any space to stand. A Buddhist devotee named Seo Sang-wol opened a restaurant above the mineral spring, and around 1920, Ven. Gyeongsan, who is now at Hwaeomsa Temple in Jeongeup, established a temple above this spring, which became Yeongcheonsa. Later, around 1960, Ven. Seonwoo rebuilt the Daeungjeon Hall, newly constructed the Sansingak and Jonggak, and added two dormitory buildings, thereby establishing the temple’s scale. About 30 meters above Yeongcheonsa is Munsusa.
