Chuncheon Seowon is a late Joseon Dynasty educational institution located in Pacheon-ri, Buhang-myeon, Gimcheon-si. The site is identified as Chuncheon Seowon by the Chuncheon Seodang nameplate and a Hamabi (stone plaque) at the entrance. It was established in 1756 (32nd year of King Yeongjo) to memorialize Wooam Song Si-yeol, the leader of the Noron faction in the late Joseon period, and his descendant Unpyeong Song Neungsang. Scholars of the local Noron Confucian literati gathered here for academic research. The seowon was abolished in 1868, and today only a small auditorium of similar size to a typical hanok house remains. Ancestral rites are no longer held here, but on Gogu (Grain Rain) day each year, descendants of six families—Yeonan Yi, Habin Yi, Byeokjin Yi, Suncheon Park, Geochang Shin, and Seongsan Yi—gather to honor their ancestors and jointly manage the site.
