Eumseong Taegyosa was established in the 20th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon (1744), when Joo Eung-dong received a portrait of Zhu Xi from Kim Mun-ung residing in Anseong and built a shrine called Mungok Yeongdang for the Joo clan, opening a seowon (Confucian academy). However, it was closed by the Daewon-gun's order to abolish seowon and later rebuilt in 1893, renaming the shrine Taegyosa. The structure consists of the shrine, a lecture hall called Jaesil, and a three-gate entrance. Passing through the red wooden gate (hongsalmun) separating it from the outside, the Jaesil is located at the front, with a separate fence behind it and a three-gate (sot-eul sammun) installed. Beyond the gates lies the shrine, arranged with the lecture hall in front and the shrine at the back, following the jeondang humyo layout. The shrine building has a hip-and-gable tiled roof with three bays across the front and two bays deep, with an open interior and wooden flooring, housing Zhu Xi's portrait. The lecture hall features a single-eave hip-and-gable tiled roof with four bays front and two bays side; the two end bays are ondol rooms, and the center two bays form a main hall. The three-gate has a gable roof in the style of a sot-eul sammun.
