Yeougogae, connecting the south of Bucheon-si and Siheung-si, was a pass through which cattle were driven from Siheung to Sosa livestock market in Bucheon-si, and also used to go to Bupyeong Hwang-eojang. It is sometimes interpreted as 'So Pass' because in hanja it is written as Yeou[如牛], meaning like a cow. There is a theory that the mountain shape resembles a lying cow, which is why it is called Yeougogae. Another view is that Yeou comes from the word 'yeowi,' meaning narrow and small, thus Yeouwon pass. Lastly, it is also called Hohyeon[狐峴], named because of the many trees and secluded location where foxes appeared frequently; some old locals of Sosa region reported seeing foxes, and the terrain before the current road was formed supports the possibility of fox sightings. In the Bucheon City history, the etymology is said to come from the pronunciation of 'yeot,' which sounds similar to a word meaning shallow, implying Yeot became Yeoga and then Yeou, meaning not a place with frequent fox appearances but a low, gentle pass. With these various meanings, Yeougogae is an important road connecting Bucheon, Siheung, and Seoul.
