Haenggye Seowon was elevated from Haenggye Seosa, where Kim Gang studied, to a seowon in 1785. In 1804 (4th year of King Sunjo), it was established by the local Confucian scholars to commemorate the scholarship and virtue of Kim Gang and Kim Hongje, enshrining their memorial tablets and taking part in ancestral rites and local education. It was abolished in 1868 under the Seowon Abolition Order. It was later restored in 1925. Buildings within the premises include the 3-kan Mohyeonsa, the 6-kan Myeongnyundang, the Sinmun, and the Juso. The memorial tablets of Kim Gang and Kim Hongje are enshrined in the center of Mohyeonsa, the shrine. The lecture hall Myeongnyundang consists of a central floor and side rooms, and is used for various events, gatherings of Confucian scholars, and academic discussions.
