Yeongam Hyanggyo was first built in the 2nd year of King Sejong of Joseon (1420). It was reconstructed after being burned down during the Japanese invasions of Korea and again in a fire in 1918, but suffered destruction once more during the Korean War when it was completely burned down. The current buildings were rebuilt with Daeseongjeon in 1951, dormitories for students called Dongjae and Seojae in 1963, and Myeongnyundang in 1969, with the rest of the buildings constructed in order thereafter. The structure shows a unique layout with educational and ritual spaces arranged side by side to the east and west. Myeongnyundang, the lecture hall where students gather to study, is built on a scale of 4 kan in front and 2 kan on the side. Daeseongjeon, which enshrines the spirit tablets of Confucius and sages from China and Korea, is simply decorated. In addition, there is Naesammun separating the two spaces and a rectangular pond.

Nokdong Seowon was founded in the 8th year of Injo (1630) under the name 'Jonyangsa' and received the royal title 'Nokdong' in the 39th year of Sukjong (1713), continuing to this day. At its founding, the Seowon enshrined only Yeonchon Choi Deok-ji (1384–1455), but later also enshrined Choi Deok-ji's grandson Sandang Choi Chung-seong (1458–1491), Mungok Kim Su-hang (1629–1689), and Nongam Kim Chang-hyeop (1651–1708). Nokdong Seowon holds the 'Yeongam Nokdong Seowon Woodblocks and Ancient Documents,' designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Jeollanam-do. Representative ancient documents include 25 books of 'Seowon Cheonggeuman' listing students, 2 books of 'Seowon Seojae Yuan,' 5 books of 'Simwonrok,' 3 books of 'Hapgyeongjae Bonoan,' as well as single-sheet documents such as notices, certificates, and slave donation documents. Additionally, woodblocks include collections of writings by the enshrined figures like 'Yeonchon Yusa,' 'Mungokjip,' and 'Sandangjip,' as well as 'Seokcheonjip' by a figure from the nearby area. These relics provide comprehensive and multifaceted valuable materials on Nokdong Seowon's history, organization and operation, economic base, and lists of students.

한우와 낙지로 만든 갈낙탕은 영암의 별미로 8시간 동안 우려낸 쇠갈비 국물에 산낙지를 넣어 살짝 끊여내 맛이 시원하면서도 깊다. 주인이 무산 갯벌에서 직접 가져온 낙지를 즉석에서 조리해 맛이 신선한 것도 특징. 살아 있는 세발낙지를 젓가락에 감아 먹는데, 씹히는 맛이 일품이다.

박물관은 전통고가마인 영암요, 전통공방, 3개의 전시실, 자료연구실, 강의실, 판매장, 야외공연장 등이 들어서 있다. 전시실에는 구림도기가마터 출토유물을 비롯해 고려도기, 옹기, 옹관 등이 전시되어 있고, 해마다 특별전과 기획전이 열린다.
