Hoam Lee Byung-chul's birthplace is the house where Hoam Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung Group and a leading entrepreneur who led South Korea's economic development, was born. In 1851, Hoam's grandfather personally built it in traditional Hanok style on a land area of 1,907㎡. Hoam Byung-chul spent his childhood and early married life in this house until he moved out. Hoam Lee Byung-chul was born in 1910 in Uiryeong, Gyeongsangnam-do. Since establishing Samsung Sanghoe in Daegu in 1938, he created many companies including Samsung Electronics, contributing to the national economic development. In 1961, he initiated the Korea Employers Federation (currently FKI) and was elected its first chairman. In 1965, based on a firm belief in corporate social responsibility and mission, he established the Samsung Cultural Foundation to enrich Korea's spiritual assets with various projects. In the 1980s, with unique insight and foresight, he entered the semiconductor industry, laying the foundation for the development of Korea's advanced industry. Hoam led Korea's economic growth, based on management philosophy of national service through business, prioritizing talent, and pursuing rationality. The birthplace, constructed in a linear floor plan, sits on flat land facing southwest. After several restorations, it presents a subtle and elegant appearance today. The house comprises an inner quarters, sarangchae (men's quarters), main gate building, and storage, enclosed by a modest earthen wall and rock walls, distinguishing it from the outside. Around it, dense bamboo groves create an atmospheric landscape. According to feng shui, this house has the shape of Nujeokbong (a stacked grain mound), with the surrounding mountain energy gathered on the site, signifying prosperity. Additionally, the Namgang River nearby flows slowly around the house rather than rushing away, forming reverse water flow, making it a most auspicious site.
