芸術の町、統営をじっくりと見て回るには徒歩旅行が適している。統営の中心であるカングアン周辺の文化広場を起点に、ナムマン山彫刻公園に登って統営港を眺めるところから徒歩旅行を始めよう。画家キム・ヨンジュ、イ・ジュンソプ、詩人ユ・チファン、小説家パク・ギョンリ、詩人キム・チュンス、作曲家ユン・イサンなど統営出身の芸術家たちの足跡をたどり、この地が抱える物語を振り返る。中央市場でチョルボククやシラククで朝食をとった後、カングアン周辺で統営の名物オミサハチミツパンとチュンムキムパプを軽食に持っていこう。

청마의 삶을 기리며 문학관(전시관)과 생가를 복원해 두었다. 그가 태어난 생가는 도시 발전으로 이곳으로 옮겨왔다. 장소는 다르지만 그가 나고 자란 공간을 볼 수 있어 청마를 흠모하는 이들에게는 빼놓을 수 없는 장소다. 청마의 유품 100여점과 문헌자료 수백점이 전시되어 있다.
수군통제영의 줄인 말인 ‘통영’. 세병관은 1605년 준공한 통제영의 객사이다. 정면 9칸, 측면 5칸짜리의 단층 팔작지붕으로 된 웅장한 건물이다. 시원한 구조가 눈에 띈다. 평평한 바닥의 중앙 일부를 한단 올려 뒀는데 이곳에 전패를 모셨던 것으로 여겨진다. 통영의 역사를 살필 수 있는 공간이다.
Yun Isang Street refers to the area starting from the end of Seohu Market in Tongyeong City and extending in a straight line to where it connects with the underwater tunnel. In 2001, to honor the musical achievements of Yun Isang, a world-renowned composer native to Tongyeong, the street adjacent to his birthplace was designated as 'Yun Isang Street.' Various sculptures have been installed and maintained there. Walking along the street, visitors encounter Yun Isang's birthplace, Yun Isang Memorial Park, and Yun Isang Memorial Hall. The Memorial Hall displays items the composer used during his lifetime and includes a building modeled after his residence in Berlin during his time in Europe, making it a pilgrimage course for musicians. Yun Isang Street is located one block inland from the coastal road, offering a chance to feel the footprints of Yun Isang and enjoy the clear sea of Tongyeong.
조선시대 최고의 장군, 삼도수군통제사 이순신 장군의 위훈을 기리고 추모하기 위한 사당이다. 한산도에 가지 않고도 이 충무공의 흔적을 느낄 수 있는 몇몇 곳 중 하나. 이순신 장군의 위패를 모신 사당을 비롯해 내삼문, 중문 등 다섯 개의 문이 있다.
통영과 미륵도를 연결하는 해저터널은 1931년, 일제강점기 당시 1년4개월 동안 만들어졌다. 동양 최초의 바다 및 터널로 483m 길이에 5m 너비, 3.5m의 높이를 갖췄다. 그렇다고 터널을 지날 때 바다 속 풍경이 보일 거라는 기대는 하지 않는 것이 좋다. 양쪽 바다를 막고 바다 밑을 파서 만든 콘크리트 터널이다.
Gangguan is a harbor where the sea comes into the land, and the Gangguan sea is fresher and livelier than other harbors. The blue seawater rolls, giving the feeling that the entire sea is shaking. Fishing boats are moored side by side in a row. In front of the harbor, restaurants selling the famous Chungmu gimbap line up. At the workshop with a bellows and furnace, various tools are made in the old-fashioned way by working with iron, and the Jungang Market has everything from seafood to industrial goods. Residents, market vendors, and travelers visiting here all create and enjoy the fresh and lively atmosphere of Gangguan. If the most beautiful harbor at night is Yeosu Port, then the most beautiful harbor in the daytime is Tongyeong’s Gangguan.
The name Tongyeong originated from the site of Tongjeyeong, where the Naval Commander resided. During the Japanese invasion of Korea (Imjin War), the position of Naval Commander overseeing Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Chungcheong provinces was created. Admiral Yi Sun-sin was appointed to this post, relocating the Naval Command from Yeosu in Jeollanam-do to Hansan Island in front of Tongyeong. Since then, people began calling this area Tongyeong. After the war, the Naval Command was moved to the old Chungmu city, and the area around old Chungmu came to be called Tongyeong. Remaining historical sites such as Jesaengdang on Hansan Island and Sebyeonggwan in Tongyeong city prove this was the Naval Command base. In January 1995, during municipal mergers, Tongyeong-gun merged with Chungmu city to become Tongyeong-si. Established in 1997 with works from 15 sculptors from 10 countries, Nammangsan Sculpture Park spans over 5,000 pyeong, showcasing unique artistic styles against a beautiful natural backdrop. The artistic inspiration and imagination, along with the spacious open area, are ample to relieve physical and mental fatigue.
Tongyeong Jungang Traditional Market is a historic market with over 400 years of history. Behind the market on the hill is Dongpirang, known as the Montmartre of the East, and nearby are Sebyeonggwan, built to commemorate Admiral Yi Sun-sin's achievements, and the Gangguan Cultural Square where the Geobukseon (Turtle Ship) is displayed. Fresh live fish and dried seafood are mainly sold, and shops selling mother-of-pearl lacquerware and quilted products reflecting the area's history as the site of 12 crafts workshops during the Joseon Tongjeyeong era, along with bajigaeddeok (rice cakes), keep the traditional market’s spirit alive. Special streets such as the Live Fish Specialty Street, Dried Fish Specialty Street, Side Dish Specialty Street, Dried Seafood Street, and Honey Bread Street are arranged by zone, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of sights and foods.
[분소식당] 통영 별미로 꼽히는 졸복 요리 전문점. 한산도, 소매물도 등으로 향할 수 있는 여객선터미널 앞에 서호시장에 자리한다. 시원한 국물 맛으로 통영을 애주가들의 천국으로 만드는 데 결정적인 역할을 한 졸복국, 통영을 찾았다면 절대 놓치지 말자. [원조시락국] 통영 아지매들의 지혜가 담긴 영양식 시락국은 장어뼈에 된장을 풀어 시래기를 넣고 푹 고아낸 통영 별미다. 이곳은 시락국 원조집으로 꼽히는 음식점. 서호시장 내에 자리한다. 길게 다찌 형식으로 형성된 식당은 각자 알아서 반찬을 덜어 먹는 구조이다. 이른 새벽부터 문을 열어 여객선터미널을 이용하는 이들이 많이 찾는다.
