경기도 화성시 서신면 앞바다에 위치한 제부도는 면적 1㎢에 해안선 길이도 12㎞에 불과해 여의도보다 작은 섬이다. 제부도는 하루에 두 차례 바닷길 열림 현상이 일어나며, 섬은 북쪽에 작은 포구가 있다. 섬은 북쪽 포구 주변의 작은 자갈밭과 서쪽 해안의 제부리 해수욕장이 있으며 온통 갯벌로 둘러싸여 있다.
