Boryeong Bangjoje is a small-scale embankment created by blocking the Gwangcheon Stream, which flows into the West Sea between Ocheon-myeon and Cheonbuk-myeon in Boryeong-si, Chungnam. This embankment was constructed for reclamation projects and agricultural water supply. On the West Sea side, besides Ocheon Port, Cheonbuk Marina is located, where docked yachts create an exotic scenery. Although the road built on the embankment has no shoulder and parking on the embankment is not possible, visitors can park in nearby lots and take a quiet walk along the breakwater sidewalk or stroll around Ocheon Port. If the timing is right, ending the day by watching the sunset at Boryeong Bangjoje is also recommended. Nearby Cheonbuk-myeon is known for oysters, making it a good place to experience oyster dishes. Boryeong Bangjoje can be accessed via National Route 40 and Local Route 610, with Gwangcheon IC and Daecheon IC of the Seohaean Expressway nearby. Surrounding attractions include Ocheon Port, Cheonbuk Marina, Cheonbuk Port, Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong, Ocheon Market, and Galmaemot Martyrdom Site.
Boryeong Seongjusa Temple Site is the site of a temple located in a valley south of Seongjusan Mountain (676.7m) in the eastern part of Boryeong-si. Seongjusa was a very prosperous temple, known as one of the Nine Mountain Seon Schools in the late Unified Silla period. Seongjusa was founded around the 6th century under the name Ohapsa by Baekje King Beopwang, and it was renamed Seongjusa in the late Unified Silla period. At its peak, Seongjusa consisted of over a thousand rooms and housed more than 2,000 monks. Due to this influence, artifacts ranging from the Baekje period to the early Joseon period have been excavated at the site. The historic site of Seongjusa includes National Treasure Nanghye Hwasang Baegwol Bogwang Tapbi, Treasure Five-Story Stone Pagoda, Treasure Central Three-Story Stone Pagoda, Treasure West Three-Story Stone Pagoda, Chungcheongnam-do Tangible Cultural Property Stone Lantern, and Chungcheongnam-do Cultural Property Materials such as Stone Base and Standing Stone Buddha. Excavations have uncovered remains of buildings including the Golden Hall, Three-Thousand Buddha Hall, Cloister, and Middle Gate. In the northwest of the site is an elaborately constructed pavilion housing a stupa monument with an inscription written by Goun Choi Chi-won, a great literary figure of Silla, and calligraphy by his nephew Choi In-yeon. Exhibits are currently on display at the Seongjusa Temple Site Millennial History Hall built right next to it. Boryeong Seongjusa Temple Site is accessible from National Route 40 via Simwon Valley Road and is near Daecheon IC and Muchangpo IC on the Seohaean Expressway and Seobu-yeo IC on the Seocheon-Gongju Expressway. Nearby attractions include Seongjusan Mountain, Boryeong Mugunghwa Arboretum, Boryeong Coal Museum, Boryeong Youth Training Center, Simyeondong Valley (Seongju Valley), and Seongju-myeon township.
Gaehwa Art Park is located in the southern valley of Seongjusan Mountain. Spanning approximately 18 hectares, it features Mosan Sculpture Museum, a sculpture park, Fain Music Hall, Herb Land, Badugine Zoo, Café Lily, Herb Hill Foot Bath Café, and a sledding slope. The Mosan Sculpture Museum with its orange roof is built from oseok (a type of stone) found in Boryeong, where visitors can appreciate artists’ works. The sculpture park displays oseok sculptures from the entrance, and the Handwritten Poetry Monument Park engraved with poems by living poets is also a highlight. Herb Land, filled with the scent of herbs, offers dining options. Throughout the park, there are seven ponds, waterfalls, and walking trails, making it a unique spot to heal with nature. Activities include a small train, pedal boats, fishing, sightseeing train, and hands-on experiences at Mosan Sculpture Museum such as decorating oseok pressed flowers, wood carving decoration, making plaster air fresheners, shrink key rings, decorating ceramic bells, herbarium plus postcard decoration, mug decoration, and a zoo next to the museum. Gaehwa Art Park can be accessed via National Road No. 40, near Daecheon IC and Muchangpo IC on Seohaean Expressway, and Seobu-yeo IC on Seocheon-Gongju Expressway. Nearby are Okmasan, Seongjusan Natural Recreation Forest, Boryeong Mugunghwa Arboretum, Boryeong Coal Museum, and Boryeong Youth Training Center.
