Gwacheon Hyanggyo was established in 1398 in Gwacheon-hyeon. Later, believing the feng shui theory that the site was not good and would not produce talented people, the Confucian scholars moved it to its current location in 1690. The educational space, Myeongnyundang, is placed in front, and the ritual space, Daeseongjeon, is located at the back. The front is for study, and the rear is for ceremonies. Daeseongjeon has 3 bays in front and 2 bays on the side, with a gable roof shaped like the Chinese character 人 (person) when viewed from the side. Myeongnyundang measures 5 bays in front and 2 bays on the side; the central 3 bays have a wooden floor used as a lecture room, the east side has an ondol room, and the west side has a wooden floor room. This arrangement follows the precedent of preparing rooms for professors (教授). The outer three gates are in the form of a 5-bay front and 2-bay side gate built in 1974, and a hongsalmun gate stands in front of the outer three gates.

Yeonjuam, a temple well known to those who often visit Gwanaksan Mountain, is counted as a scenic spot of Gwanaksan along with Yeonjudae, perched atop the 629m-high rocky cliff. The neighboring peak Yeonjudae is a famous viewpoint symbolic of Gwanaksan, offering a panoramic view of Seoul city. It is said that Yeonjuam was founded by Uisang Daesa in 677. Formerly called Gwansaksa, today's Yeonjuam was relocated to the current site in 1411 by Prince Yangnyeong and Prince Hyoryeong, the first and second sons of King Taejong. Yeonjuam, precariously situated on a cliff, is where all Gwanaksan hiking trails converge. Following the southern ridge leads to Janggunbawi, while the northern ridge leads to Madangbawi. To the left is Munoeumi Pass reaching Samsung Mountain, and to the right stretches Jahadongcheon valley. It takes about an hour to descend from Yeonjuam along the Jahadongcheon valley to Gwacheon city.
