Jisimgdo, located 1.5 km east offshore from Jisepo-ri, Ilun-myeon, Geoje-si, is a small island with an area of 0.338 km² and a coastline length of 3.5 km. It is about a 15-minute ferry ride from Jangseungpo Port and Jisepo Port, with an exploration time within 2 hours. Named Jisimgdo because the shape of the island viewed from the sky resembles the character for 'mind' (心), among the islands of the southern coast, it stands out for having an outstanding number and age of camellia trees, making the name 'Camellia Island' very fitting. Its beautiful scenic resources, pristine natural environment with virgin forest, and reputation as an unpolluted and undamaged clean area have attracted many tourists due to TV program exposure and improved accessibility following the opening of the Geoga Bridge. Since the Japanese colonial period, it was forcibly taken into military possession with only the surface rights owned by residents making various activities impossible, continuing to this day, but long-standing hopes to restore ownership bore fruit when the Ministry of National Defense transferred ownership to Geoje City in 2017.
