Hongsan Gaksa | 観光地情報 | K-Travel Mate

Gaksa was a facility where officials or envoys visiting the government office stayed, enshrining the royal tablet, and it was the highest-ranked among government-related facilities. It is said to have been built in 1836 (the 2nd year of King Heonjong) by then-gunsoo Kim Yong-geun. It was once used as a myeon office and was extensively restored in 1983 to regain its original appearance. Upon entering through the outer three-door called Pyeongsammun, the central Jeongdang consists of 3 bays front and 3 bays side, flanked by the east wing with 5 bays front and 2 bays side, and the west wing with 3 bays front and 2 bays side. The Jeongdang has a double-eaved gabled roof, while the east and west wings have single-eaved hipped-and-gabled roofs. The wings differ in size, resulting in an unbalanced left and right side. Hongsan Gaksa is relatively large among guesthouse buildings. The ginkgo tree inside the site is designated as a Chungcheongnam-do monument and has high biological preservation value as a male tree of the same age as the building. Nearby, visitors can also tour Hongsan Gaksa ginkgo tree, Hongsan Dongheon, Hongsan Hyanggyo, Hongsan Hyeongwana, and Hongsan Hyeongbangcheong.
